This online course provides a clear, practical guide to safely isolating local electrical supplies to fire & security systems, smoke control, automated gates and doors, and HVAC systems - in line with the Electricity at Work Regulations and industry best practice.
Designed specifically for fire & security technicians, it covers both the theory and step-by-step procedure of Safe Isolation.
You’ll learn how to carry out work legally, safely, and confidently - and avoid the potentially fatal risks of working on live systems.
If your role requires practical assessment, we recommend completing our in-class Safe Isolation course every 3 years, with this online course used as an annual refresher.

Do I need any qualifications to take this course?
No prior qualifications are required. It’s suitable for anyone working on or around electrical systems who needs to understand Safe Isolation.
Does this course include a practical element?
The online course covers all theoretical and procedural steps. If required, you can arrange an optional 1-to-1 practical assessment with Ember Compliance to demonstrate competence in person.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes! Upon passing the final quiz (70% pass mark), you’ll receive a downloadable certificate. This may be CPD-accredited depending on your employer’s requirements.
How long is the certificate valid for?
Certificates are valid for 12 months. You’ll be invited to refresh your training before it expires.
What if I fail the quiz?
You have up to three attempts to pass. If unsuccessful after three tries, you’ll need to repurchase access to try again.
